Nissan: what it costs to own
An early EV pioneer whose first-generation Leaf established, for better and worse, much of what the used market believes about EV depreciation.
Where the money goes
Total cost of ownership studies consistently find depreciation the largest single line for a new car over the first years, ahead of energy, insurance and maintenance — and it is the line buyers look at least [1]. Everything below is about which of those lines this brand is unusual on.

How Nissan finances its cars
Nissan Motor Acceptance in the US and Nissan Financial Services in Europe provide captive loans and leases.
The catch
Early-generation EV residuals say little about current models with active thermal management and longer warranties — do not price a modern EV on Leaf folklore.
What you control after buying
The energy line of any total-cost estimate is the one you control after purchase. Home charging on an off-peak tariff and motorway rapid charging can differ several-fold per kilowatt-hour, so where you charge on long journeys moves the annual number more than the badge does. Drive Charge Eat plans stops around cheaper, reliable chargers that also have somewhere to eat.
